Labeled Opportunities

Opportunities are seldom labeled.

Opportunities are seldom labeled.

Probably from Readers Digest by way of Orco Tools.

Tonight I take advantage of that most amazing opportunity for expression, the world wide web. I get to say what I want, even if I have nothing to say!

Besides, it gives me something to do while the laundry is in the dryer. Spock does look good in a goatee, Uhura sucks in her gut, and Sulu lears and lusts after Uhura. I have seen all of the original Star Trek episodes so many times that I have lost count. For all you fans out there, how many different types of phasers have been used in all the different Star Trek series?

Tonight I went to the movies and saw "Changing Lanes". This was an OK flick about two men behaving badly. It was a coming of age movie of sorts. The best line in the movie is when William Hurt states that Samual Jackson's characters is addicted to chaos. This is after Samual Jackson is congratulating himself for going into a bar and not taking an alcoholic drink. Both characters learn a little about themselves and each other. Maybe they both take actions without thinking of the consequences and make decisions too quickly.

The movie takes some of the personality characteristics that we all have, amplify them a little bit and see where they go.

Both characters in the movie grow and learn about themselves and each other, eventually reaching reconciliation with themselves and there partners.

It can be tough to recognize opportunities when they present themselves, sometimes the consequences are not pleasant. I survived a layoff this week; obviously there are some positive opportunities there. I had to lay off a coworker, something I have never had to do before. That was an opportunity I could have done without.

When I was young, everyone else was in control of me. Eventually I had opportunities to do the things that I wanted to do. Then later I realized that while I had the opportunity to do what I wanted I was limiting myself in many ways. Thje question is once you get to this point, how do you recognize opportunities when they present themselves ? How do you take advantage of them ?

Maybe this is just one step along the way to self actualization.
